Zoom Zoom Zumba!

I had the opportunity to try something tonight that I’ve been wanting to do for months now – Zumba!  It was a tossup between that and Jazzercise, which I’m thinking are fairly closely related.

ZUMBA is a trade name for a dance fitness program created by dancer and choreographer Perez in Colombia during the 1990s. The program combines Latin and international music with dance in an effort to make exercise fun. (Thanks Wikipedia)  So how did I like it?  Well….

Let’s clear the air right now, it was fun & I liked it… that’s it, plain and simple.  You won’t ever hear or see me get excited about anything that makes me move for 50 minutes straight, sweat like a pig and smell like one too!  Whether it is Zumba, Jazzercise, moving furniture etc… it’s just not going to make me jump up and down and say WooHoo!  But it’s necessary… if I want to get my old svelte pole dancing body back, I must exercise, and I must sweat in the process… It’s just one of those things you don’t want to do but have to do… not to mention the fact that I think I probably burned about 700 calories in just one hour!!

Sooo… at first I was good, not coordinated but good in keeping movement with the music – but after 20 minutes of hip swiveling I realized a shot of vodka wouldn’t be so bad at that moment.  Unlike Shakira, my hips lie.  It was great because there was no pressure to keep in step, just move and have fun was the motto…  But dummy me, thought that I should wear my Reebok Easytones © to make the workout more intense. Hahahaha… idiot.  We all danced, I attempted to keep in step with the instructor, had a steady eye on her foot movements and couldn’t help but notice that despite her good physique her butt was somewhat jiggly – perhaps I should lend her my easytones.  Naturally I’m not going to get all the moves in sync the first time out… it takes practice, and practice I will.

That’s right folks... I’m joining the Zumba craze…
